The Case of the Twin Teddy Bears
The story
begins with a girl named Nancy that has a shop called Beary
Wonderful. Her best friend, Bess, saw a teddy bear on a shelf and wanted
to buy it, but the price was $210, but she still bought it.
One night
when she was about to leave the shop in her friend Dotty’s hand, she heard a
scream coming from behind the corner. Nancy and Bess ran to see who was
screaming. She turned around the corner and saw a girl with blond long hair.
Bess had an un-drank coffee, so she decided to give it to her. The girl said
her name was Ingrid. She told what happened to the girls. She said she was
walking when a man grabbed her and she started screaming, but the man ran away.
Nancy and Bess looked at each other puzzled. They thought they could run after
the mysterious guy/girl, but they realized he/she ran away. Ingrid then looked
at Bess’s hands and saw she had to birthday bear in her hands and asked if she
could get one for her in the next month.
That night
after they met Ingrid, Nancy received a message from Dotty saying she closed up
the shop.
When they
arrived at the shop, the outside light was still on. Nancy and Bess were really
shocked and guessed she just forgot to close up. When they looked closely the
“closed” sign was turned to the “open” side. They were very confused. As they
were about to open the door, the door was open too. They walked inside the shop
and they saw the replica of the birthday bear, and some other bears were
missing.
Nancy
panicked. She was wondering how this could have happened. They looked
everywhere for the bears but couldn’t find anything.
That night,
Bess slept over at Nancy’s house. They heard footsteps in the kitchen of the
house, Nancy and Bess were very scared, they heard the footsteps going up to
their room, and they hid under the covers with the birthday bear. Nancy got up
and went out side hitting the walls with a baseball bat. She then heard the
footsteps running away. She walked to
her garden and she saw the same footsteps in the snow as the ones she saw when
they met Ingrid. They started to wonder who is it could be any why someone
wants to steal a bear.
The next
day, they went in Larry’s shop. Larry is a middle-aged man, which owns a toy
store. He sat down and put his shoe up, Nancy looked at his shoes and saw the
soul of the shoes; they looked exactly like the footprints she saw in a front
yard and when Ingrid got attacked. She
stayed there with her mouth open. As Bess was about to go out, she was a
birthday bear, and a bunch of other bears. She called Nancy really fast and she
ran to the entrance. Looking at her real birthday bear she thought, “It’s him!
He is the thief! But I need proof.”
That night,
Nancy and Bess were invited to a party at they ice skating rink with their old
friend Ned. When they were at the party, Bess saw Nancy was missing and she ran
to rook for her. Next to the ice skating rink, was a forest, Ned and Bess went
in the forest to look for her. Bess got lost in the forest, but Ned found
Nancy, she was in a dry pond. She said the ice melted and she slipped. A few
minutes later Bess found them and joined, and then everyone else at the party
joined too. Nancy thought about it and she remembered she gave the bear to Bess
and Bess gave it to Ned. Nancy asked Ned if he still had it, and he said he
left it in the car. Bess got really worried so she ran to the car with everyone
following her. When they arrived at the car, the bear was still in the car, and
looked like no one touched it. From that moment Ned helped the girls look for
the thief.
The next
day Nancy and Bess were thinking about the reason why he would ever want to
steal the bears. Nancy arrived to a conclusion that there might be something
inside the birthday bear. She researched online and she found out that in many
of those bears there are stolen objects. She thought that maybe there was
something inside the birthday bear. She continued reading and she saw that
there is still one object left to find and give to the police, a small golden
statue, and it was in a birthday bear. She realized the bear could carry a
small golden statue, and that that is probably the reason why Larry wanted to
steal the bear.
That night,
Nancy and Bess went to the shop with Dotty to ask her if she saw anything, but
Dotty said she didn’t. Dotty also said that during the day, she left her watch
in the bathroom on the sink, and when she came back to the bathroom to put it
back on she didn’t find it, and the worst part of all it was a golden watch.
Nancy in the meantime touched a bubble gum from under the table and went to
wash her hands. When she was about to dry her hands, she saw Dotty’s watch
under the sink. She called Dotty and she ran to the bathroom. Nancy figured
that someone must have broken it with a hammer.
The next
day they went back to Larry’s shop and Nancy screamed at him, “We caught you!
We are going to call the police!” Larry answered by saying, “It wasn’t be I
swear! I just ordered these bears so I could sell them.” But Nancy and Bess
still didn’t believe them, but they didn’t show it and let it go. While they
were there they asked Larry if he knew about the statue, and he said no.
Nancy
continued researching about the golden statue but she couldn’t find anything
more than what she found before. She asked Bess to ask around, but no one knew
about it.
The next
week, Ingrid told Nancy and Bess she had to leave to go to Germany and that she
needed the birthday bear that day. Nancy got a little suspicious and said she
couldn’t because they didn’t come in yet. Ingrid got very mad and started to
scream. Nancy decided to call a detector, Kommissar Franz Schmidt, a German
police officer/detector.
The next
day Nancy, Bess, Ned, and Schmidt went to the airport to drop Ingrid off and Bess
also gave her the birthday bear. Nancy got really suspicious so they decided to
follow her to see if she would really get on the plane. They passed the gate
because they had a special permeation from Schmidt. They saw Ingrid get on the
plane so they walked way, luckily Schmidt went to the bathroom close to the
plane gate, and just before he got out of the bathroom, Ned saw Ingrid get off
the plane, showing people, right after that, Schmidt came out of the bathroom
and saw Ingrid throw something in the trash, but they didn’t know what it was.
What was it and why was Ingrid doing off the plane?

Bess à Works at Beary Wonderful. Owns the most expensive bear, the birthday
bear.
Nancy à Very smart, tries to find out who the thief is.
Dotty à Works at Beary Wonderful, she was the last person in the store before the
shop got robbed.
Ingrid à Mean and wanted the bear for her self.
Larry à was accused at the beginning for stealing the bears
Kommissar Franz Schmidt à German detective/police, found out who the thief was
Theme: The theme is betrayal. Bess
and Nancy trusted the thief at the beginning trusted the thief, but then they
found out who he/she was. And that he/she was the one that stole the bears
Reflection: This book matters
because it shows you not to trust someone you just met. The “so what” of this
book is, never trust someone that you just met and you don’t know anything
about them. I didn’t like the thief in this book, because he/she acted as a
friend but behind that she was the opposite. I would really recommend this
book, because it’s a very good book, and it’s very interesting. This book is
important, because it shows you that someone who you think you can trust can
really be stabbing you on the back. I saw myself as Bess because, she was very
scared that someone was following her, and I would be scared to, and I would
protect that teddy bear like she did.
