Al
Capone Does My shirt
By Gennifer
Choldenko
.Today
12year old Moose Flanagan and his family, have just moved to a place called
Alcatraz island, In San Francisco. The date was Friday, January 4, 1935 Moose and
his family came to Alcatraz for Moose’s sister Natalie to go to a special and
advanced school. When they arrived his father had to work for a prison as an
electrician witch was on the island. Moose had a hard time moving in; he was
missing his baseball team and did not blend in with his other classmates. One
day walking to school he met a girl named Piper, Moose also known as Moose, was
attracted to her but when he started to know her better she could be very
obnoxious .Natalie also had a trouble moving, she did not want to go to that
school and felt sick. After a while Moose’s family discovered that Natalie had
a severe case of autism witch is one of the causes of death, and was rejected
from the special school for that, witch crushed his parent’s hopes. Moose had
started taking care of Natalie after school because his mother, Helen, was a
music teacher. Meanwhile, Moose and Piper grow closer together, and started to
know each other more. The next day, Piper asked Moose for help by selling some
clothes to people to get some money and he accepted. But sudden Mathew found
out that Piper lured Moose to a scheme, she was taking their classmates laundry
clothes and telling them that a made up person named Al Capone is the laundry
men in the island and was going to clean their shirt, but instead she directly
sold them to other people to get some money. Will Moose stop this conflict or
will anything happen to Natalie, read the book to find out.
E)
The year is 1935 and it was the depression period where it was a bad time for
people and it does not have a lot of difference from the book because Mathew
lived at an island where there is a prison and how a lot of people have don bad
things at that time of period:
Page
1: Moose: “In Alcatraz Island there are
ton of murders, rapists, hit men, conmen, stickup men, embezzlers, and
kidnapers a time where everyone has gone mad”
F)
Moose’s family traveled to San Francisco to a prison and we could see that the
characters are very sad or mad the way they judges things because of the
depression period and where they lived:

rock covered with cement, topped with bird turd md surrounded by water”

witch is Moose and also dialogue, we saw how the character act by how they talk.
h)
The Al Capone does my shirts is in first person point of view by Moose. The
point of view of Moose helps us visualize how he thinks of people on the island
and also tells us more about them.
i)
The theme of Al Capone does my shirts is overcoming challenges because Moose
had a hard time going through his new school and getting used to the area he
lives in.

K) Comment: I think that
this book is a wonderful and enjoyable book because the imagination you can
have while reading is very interesting. I also like the story of the book and
how many things can happen more than one concept. Some may not agree that this
is a good book, but I think Al Capone Does my shirt is a great book to read.
